Old School Garage Art with Brandon Maloney

Written and Photographed by Jeremy Constantineau

This project was inspired by Lumpy’s Garage. Check him out for tons of one-off garage items.

One day earlier this year when the shop’s owner, Brandon, actually had some free time he came up to my desk and talked to me about how he wanted to paint some ratty old hand saws in a few different designs. Brandon was inspired by what he had seen for sale online from Lumpy’s garage. “Lumpy” is a well known artist within the customizing community famous for his classic freehand style of typography. The idea wasn’t to copy any of his work, so save it, internet trolls.

There isn’t much to this project besides painting by hand, so I’ll keep things short. Using a few different colours of One Shot Sign Enamel and a few different brushes, Brandon worked away for a few hours until three different saws that probably would have otherwise been sold on Kijiji for $25 looked like a vibrant piece of art with an authentic, gritty character.

Like what you see? These three saws are for sale at the Sketchs Ink showroom. Contact us here
