Anthony is a local guy who plays a lot of guitar. One sunny spring afternoon, he brought us a build-your-own guitar kit that he ordered online, and told us that he was interested in having a unique kind of finish done to the body of the guitar.

Anthony was looking for a Patina style finish. This is a technique which makes a brand new item appear antique and weathered by using different layers of paint and sanding them back in certain areas.

After sealing the wood, we began with a transparent brown base coat that leaves the surface of the guitar like a freshly stained porch. The transparency of this coat allows the wood grain to remain visible through the first layer of paint.

After this, we continued to build up layers to prepare for when we sanded the guitar back to wood in certain areas.

Using just sand paper and skilled hands, we were able to create the vintage and damaged look that Anthony was looking for, paired with the retro-blue colour he chose for the base.
